Do not\ncompensate with an unrelated adjustment just because the surface looks striped.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"section-3\">Irregular washboard or bumpy chatter<\/h2>\n<p>Planer chatter marks can resemble a washboard, but their pitch, depth or severity\nvaries instead of holding a clean rhythm. Unstable feed or abnormal vibration\nmay accompany the marks. Several things can produce this surface: poor support,\nnarrow or thin stock, feed-component or chipbreaker conditions, pressure-bar\nsetting, worn bearings, vibration or inconsistent knife height.<\/p>\n<p>Start with a flat, suitably supported test board. Observe whether stable support\nchanges the marks and whether abnormal sound or vibration remains, without\napproaching moving components.
