Description

Why Choose Sundi's PCD Nesting Router Bits?

  • Unmatched Tool Life (Diamond Edge)

The extreme hardness of the Polycrystalline Diamond blanks ensures the cutting edge remains razor-sharp through miles of abrasive materials. This makes our diamond router bit the most cost-effective solution for long production runs.

  • Optimized for CNC Nesting:

Precision-balanced and engineered for high feed rates, these PCD nesting router bits excel in "nesting" operations—cutting multiple components from a single sheet of material in one continuous process without sacrificing edge quality.

  • Flawless Finish on Laminated Panels

Say goodbye to chipped edges. Our PCD woodworking milling cutter features an optimized shear angle design that guarantees exceptionally clean top and bottom cuts on double-sided melamine, HPL, and veneered boards.

  • Robust High-Strength Steel Body

The premium PCD tips are precision-brazed onto a heavy-duty, high-yield steel shank. This robust steel body effectively absorbs vibration and provides excellent rigidity, ensuring ultra-smooth, chatter-free routing at maximum RPMs.

Recommended Cutting Parameters:

The following parameters are recommended starting points based on a standard 12mm (1/2″) diameter, 2-flute (Z=2) PCD router bit.

Work MaterialSpindle Speed (RPM)Feed Rate (m/min)Chip Load (fz mm/tooth)
MDF / HDF18,000 – 24,00015 – 250.35 – 0.60
Chipboard / Melamine18,000 – 24,00018 – 300.40 – 0.70
Plywood / Veneer18,000 – 22,00012 – 200.30 – 0.50
Solid Wood (Softwood)18,000 – 20,00010 – 180.25 – 0.45
Solid Wood (Hardwood)16,000 – 20,0008 – 150.20 – 0.35

Technical Notes for Optimal Performance ⚠️

To maximize the lifespan of your PCD tools and prevent premature failure, please adhere to the following CNC machining guidelines:

  • Flute Configuration (Z): The feed rates in the table above are based on 2-flute (Z=2) tools. For single-flute (Z=1) cutters, reduce the feed rate by 50%.

  • Axial Depth of Cut (ap): PCD is extremely hard but possesses lower shock resistance than solid carbide. Never apply aggressive carbide depth-of-cut rules to PCD. To prevent edge chipping and ensure maximum tool life, restrict your single-pass axial depth of cut (ap) to 0.5 to 1 times the tool diameter (0.5D – 1D). For ultra-dense materials or to strictly prioritize tool longevity, keeping the depth under 0.5D is highly recommended.

  • Chip Evacuation & Dust Extraction: The glues, resins, and impurities in MDF and particleboard are highly abrasive. A powerful and efficient dust extraction system is absolutely critical. Poor dust collection causes chips to be re-cut, subjecting the PCD edge to continuous, unnecessary friction that will drastically cut the tool’s lifespan in half.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers
Q1: Why are PCD router bits more expensive than carbide, and are they worth the investment?

A: While the initial purchase price of a diamond router bit is higher, it delivers an exceptional Return on Investment (ROI) for high-volume production. Our PCD nesting router bits last up to 50 times longer than traditional carbide tools. This dramatic increase in lifespan minimizes machine downtime for tool changes and significantly lowers your overall cost per cut, making it the most economical choice for continuous CNC panel processing.

Q2: What materials are best suited for your PCD woodworking milling cutters?

A: Our PCD woodworking milling cutters are specifically engineered to excel on highly abrasive and composite materials that quickly dull standard tools. They provide flawless, chip-free edges on double-sided melamine, MDF, HDF, Particleboard, High-Pressure Laminates (HPL), and veneered panels. For pure solid wood, standard carbide might be sufficient, but for laminated sheet goods, PCD is unmatched.

Q3: How do I choose between Z1+1, Z2+2, and Z3+3 PCD nesting router bits for my CNC machine?

A: For PCD nesting router bits, the “Z” configuration (such as Z1+1) indicates a specialized compression cutting structure: 1 up-cut flute and 1 down-cut flute. This dynamic design forces chips toward the center, preventing any chipping on both the top and bottom edges of laminated boards. A Z1+1 diamond router bit is highly cost-effective and perfect for standard feed rates or lower-power CNC routers. The Z2+2 configuration is our most versatile option, offering an excellent balance of high feed speeds and flawless edge quality for everyday nesting. For maximum efficiency on heavy-duty industrial machines, the Z3+3 PCD woodworking milling cutter allows for the fastest feed rates and the smoothest finishes in high-volume production.
