Mèches de routeur à spirale à coupe descendante
Down-cut spiral router bits are engineered with a reverse helical geometry (right-hand cutting, left-hand spiral). Unlike standard up-cut bits that pull material upwards, the down-cut flutes actively push wood chips and dust downward into the cutting zone. This unique mechanical action exerts a continuous downward compressive force on the top surface of the workpiece.
By slicing downward through the wood fibers, the down-cut bit firmly holds delicate top veneers, thin laminates, and melamine in place during the CNC machining cycle. This completely eliminates the risk of top-edge chipping, splintering, or tear-out, leaving a flawlessly clean and pristine top surface finish.
Applications polyvalentes
Opérations recommandées : Shallow dadoing, surface grooving, precision inlay work, routing thin sheet materials, and sizing laminated panels.
Matériaux adaptés : Double-sided melamine, veneered plywood, delicate surface laminates, and thin flexible plastics.

Description
Caractéristiques techniques et avantages
-
Ultimate Top-Edge Protection
The downward shearing vector acts as a localized clamp directly at the cutting edge. This prevents brittle surface coatings from lifting or separating from the core board, guaranteeing a perfect finish on the visible side of the material.
-
Enhanced Workpiece Holding
Because the axial force pushes the material down against the CNC spoilboard, down-cut bits are exceptionally effective for routing small, thin, or flexible parts that might otherwise be lifted by the vacuum suction loss or an up-cut bit's pulling force.
-
Restricted Chip Clearance (Feed Rate Limit)
Since chips are forced downward into the cut, down-cut bits cannot evacuate waste as efficiently as up-cut tools. When routing deep blind slots, this restricted clearance can cause chip packing and heat buildup. Therefore, CNC operators must program slower feed rates or utilize multiple shallow passes for deeper cuts.
Working Principle of Down-Cut Spiral Geometry
The fundamental advantage of a down-cut spiral router bit lies in its reverse helical geometry, engineered specifically to protect delicate top surfaces during CNC routing:
Downward Compressive Action: As the tool rotates, the reverse spiral flutes actively push wood chips and cutting forces downward into the material. This creates a continuous, localized clamping effect that firmly holds delicate veneers, melamine, and thin laminates against the core board, completely preventing top-edge tear-out.
- Restricted Chip Evacuation Dynamics: Because the waste material is driven downward into the cut rather than extracted upwards, down-cut bits face restricted chip clearance in blind slots. To prevent chip packing and friction-induced overheating, CNC operators must optimize this geometry by programming slower feed rates or utilizing multiple shallow passes for deeper cuts.

FAQ
Questions et réponses les plus fréquentes
A : This is the mechanical trade-off of a down-cut geometry. The same downward force that protects the top edge will push the unsupported wood fibers out at the bottom of the cut, causing tear-out on the lower face. To prevent bottom tear-out, you must ensure the workpiece is firmly pressed against a fresh, unscarred spoilboard (MDF) to provide physical backing for the bottom fibers. Alternatively, if both the top and bottom edges must remain flawless, you should switch to a [Compression Router Bit].
A : While possible, it is not recommended for deep plunging. Because the bit pushes chips downward, plunging vertically traps the waste material immediately beneath the cutter, rapidly increasing tooling temperature and the risk of breakage. Always use a ramping toolpath (entering the material at an angle) to allow chips a pathway to escape.
